ABOUT CLAIRE LYONS

Claire’s formal art studies started at the University of Tampa and she continued at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine in 1969, where she majored in ceramics.  She apprenticed for potter Jack Masson in Massachusetts and then continued her fine arts studies in Vermont at Johnson College, including workshops with ceramic artists Jack Troy and Marguerite Wieldenhain.  Claire taught ceramics at Vermont Community College and had private students at her studio in Northern Vermont where she worked with salt and Raku kilns.  After moving to Toronto in 1980 she studied ceramics with Raku artist Michael Sheba in Toronto and at Haliburton School of the Arts.  She has continued her studies in figure drawing, painting and sculpture at Toronto School of Art.  Claire has been active in introducing ceramics programs in schools and summer camps for children.  She loves taking her interest in Raku and smoke fired pottery outdoors, creating ‘pop up’ studios in natural environments.

Claire maintains a studio in Toronto where she is currently focusing on ceramics as well as oil painting, monotype and mixed media.  Her works are in private collections in the United States and Canada.
